Meet Allison Aubrey
Author, Journalist, NPR Correspondent
I've spent more than two decades reporting on the science of how we live. What we eat, how we move, how we age, what it takes to feel well at every stage of life. I'm an NPR health and science correspondent, a CBS Sunday Morning contributor, and a National Press Club, New York Press Club, and James Beard Award winner.
I'm also a card-carrying member of Gen X. I raised three kids on Crock-Pot chicken while shining a light on the stories of everyday people.
And now? It's my turn.
I took a sabbatical from the newsroom and set out on a curiosity tour, turning my journalist's searchlight on the question I kept hearing everywhere: What do I actually want now? What I found became a book.

What's next? It's a question that ambushes us in midlife. After the kids, after the hustle, after the version of yourself you built for everyone else.
I went looking for people who had found their answer. I found dozens of them. People who stopped performing their lives and started living them, who parlayed their strengths and talents into new purposes they didn't know were still possible. Their stories are instructive, infectious, and proof that midlife is not a winding down. It's a winding up.
Part science, part story, part roadmap. This is the book I needed and couldn't find.
